Blush awarded Community Benefits Fund grant

Blush was recently awarded a grant by the Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund to facilitate the purchase of cold caps equipment for use by patients at the new Oncology department of St Vincent’s Hospital Toowoomba.

Cold caps or scalp cooling equipment can be used by patients during chemotherapy treatment. Looking a bit like a helmet, the device cools the scalp, narrowing blood vessels and lowering metabolic activity so as to minimise damage to the hair follicles.

Although patients may still experience hair thinning, use of the cold caps equipment may significantly reduce the amount of hair loss. This can make a such a difference to how a patient is feeling during their treatment.

Dr Sharyn Donaldson and our Blush Nurses recently visited the St Vincent’s Hospital Oncology department to check out the equipment in person.
